Enahoro died at the age of 87

The great nationalist and elder stateman, Chief Anthony Enahoro is dead.  He died early this morning in Benin according to reports. He is aged 87.
Enahoro had an abiding commitment to the progress of Nigeria. He spent the most part of his vibrant political life fighting for the entrenchment of freedom, democracy, and egalitarianism in Nigeria. Even in old age, he had Nigeria always on his mind. He spent the later part of his life offering, from his rich hindsight and foresight, rare insights on how to pull Nigeria back from a disappointing precipice he consistently warned that the country was headed for.

Abacha’s son kicked out of Buhari’s CPC

The Ghost of Late military dictator General Sani Abacha seems to be hunting
his son’s governorship ambition as he has been given a red card from the
Congress for Progressive Change in Kano.
Mohammed Abacha whose Governorship posters have flooded Kano metropolis and Abuja got the shock of his life when he was shown the way out of the Party by the outgoing leadership of the CPC in the state over the weekend during the ward congresses marred with rigging and manipulation.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Abacha, has described his expulsion from the party as
unconstitutional.
The Director-General of "Abacha for Governor Campaign Organisation," Alhaji
Sulaiman Mambo, said the party’s leadership did not follow due process, saying
that the action was a ``nullity’’, arguing that the tenure of the party’s executives
expired on Saturday ``and  therefore lacking the power to “sack anybody from
the party''.

“We, therefore, submit that the expulsion is unconstitutional, null and void and it
cannot stand, because the stipulated procedures were not followed,’’ Mambo
stated

What a crazy fashion!

Island Club: Things fall apart

The prestigious Island club is at the moment fighting the battle of its life. The Club founded 67 years ago by fifty distinguished men is now immersed in leadership tussle.
The falcon can no longer hear the falconer, things are falling apart and members seemed ready for a big showdown.
The leadership crisis which started early this year as a result of disqualification of some members from contesting election into top positions of the club has assumed a dangerous dimension with factions plotting to take control of the club. Although, the Board of the club may have resolved to set up a caretaker committee which we gather will hold election within a three month period, but the fall out of the judgment of the Federal High Court in June which disqualified some members is also another factor in the crisis.  While those affected by the judgment wished that some certain aspect of the constitution relating to pardons and withdrawal of disciplinary action be expunged, some stood their ground objecting to the move.  As a result, the Half Yearly general meeting of the club held recently which was presided over by the chairman, Chief Olufemi Adeniyi Williams could not resolve this knotty issue. We gathered that while one faction is calling for another meeting, another faction is disclaiming it with the fear that the Chairman, Chief Williams might be suspended.  As the tussle for the soul of the famous club rages on, uncertainty looms.  We will keep you informed as development goes.

Akande Obesere
The much anticipated hip hop and fuji album of popular fuji maestro Abass Akaande Obesere and Adewale Alani Kayode a.k.a Baba nee both stingomania stars is set to be released on November 23rd at Terra culture in Lagos.
Obesere in recent times has proven himself that he can hold his own anywhere in the world, the way he coordinated himself at the celebrity edition of the Gulder ultimate this year is proof of this, putting out every doubt that he could also do Hip Hop. Obesere’s new album is titled ‘Revolution’. It is a double album with 8 track on hip hop and same number of tracks for fuji.
Baba Nee is known for his strong lyrics drawn from proverbial chant and he calls his song Afro hip hop. He titled his twelve track album ‘Twice as nice’ and it consists of songs like Jawonsi, Onpe and 2wice as nice.

Jim Nwobodo ill?

Senator Jim Nwobodo
A couple of weeks ago, Senator Jim Nwobodo jetted out of the country.  He was hale and hearty. The 70 year bubbling politician may have gone to tidy up some business interest according to information reaching us.  But few days ago when Societywatch sought to know whether he's back in the country, we gathered that he is still abroad and probably decided to attend to his health.  Our checks revealed that from a conversation he had with him, it seemed the politician is not feeling well.  He might have seized the opportunity to see his doctors before returning home. The Savannah Bank debacle and other political issues at the home front are enough worries which demand high level of fitness to tackle.  As a man who had already planted his name in the psyche of his people, his contribution to the on-going political scheming might be needed.  That is more reason he has to return home soon.  Wishing him quick recovery.

Chinenye Ochuba reminisces on her matrimony

Kunle Akinlade and Chinenye
Exactly two years ago when the former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Chinenye Ivy Ochuba Akinlade walked down the aisle with her friend of many years Adekunle Akinlade at the Regency Hall Ikeja. November 9 presents another wedding anniversary for the blessed couple.  It was a special day she will always remember.  In celebrating the day, like the couple did last year, preparations for the romantic day have been sealed.  Hold your breath, this is strictly personal and it is coming up right there in London.  Source close to the queen hinted that just like the N6m Mercedes Benz C_class gift from her hubby in 2008, another big surprise would be unveiled to her at the celebration of the wedding anniversary.  Ivy was said to have confessed to friends that she couldn't have wished for a better husband.  That is instructive, you'd say.

Mama Diaspora returns, plans another wedding for daughter in US

Chief  Ms Temitope Ajayi
A couple of weeks ago, Chief Ms Temitope Ajayi , a.k.a Mama Diaspora returned to the country after holding a classic wedding for her first daughter in United States of America. Societywatch can reveal authoritatively that she's about jetting out of the country again. Her second daughter, Moyo, a graduate of Computer science from Harvard University will be wedding in early December few months after her first daughter walked down the aisle.
We gathered that the wedding of her first daughter last month held in California, USA, was superlative with friends from the country in attendance. The single parent former leader of the Nigerian in Diaspora has got things looking up for her and this has continually amaze gossips how this woman is getting everything working out for her.
As a single parent having lost her husband to the cold hands of death several years ago, she has been responsible for the education of her three daughters who are graduates in various fields from Harvard University.

Caroline Danjuma’s dancing talent

Caroline and Musa Danjuma
Sure, one of the talents Caroline Danjuma has, apart from her on-set expertise and her singing ability with mesmerizing voice, the wife of Musa Danjuma an MTN top manager,  is blessed with the ability to move her body on any stage dance.   She proved that recently at a party she organised to lunch two new albums made by three young talented artistes so much that some guests concluded she would have been another Shakira if she was allowed to go fully into music.  She rocked and danced more than any one at the occasion.  Swinging her body and challenging songster Faze to it at the party, Caroline was the woman to beat on stage.
Spotting a tight fitting party wear atop a bomb black short, revealing the beauty of her long legs, Caroline danced herself out even as she occasionally leaned on her hubby, Musa.  The point she supposedly expressed was clear,  no room for husband snatcher.  But even her shy husband could not obliged a call to join Caroline on stage for a dance.  He graciously declined.  Don’t blame him, Oga is not party freak, but he enjoyed the swanky moment clutching to his wine glass throughout the time the party lasted.

Ibinabo Fiberesima: Born again or scared of controversy?

Ibinabo Fiberesima
Ibinabo Fiberesima’s love for showbiz and entertainment from her teens has not waned despite the awful stories on her path to fame in the industry. But one thing she probably has tried to shun is frequent appearance to parties and social functions.  Her reason, we heard, is that most of her time have now been dedicated to church activities.  She has little or no time to attend gigs and even high octane parties.  The rumbles of the scandals she has had in the past and the manslaughter case are enough to devastate a mind not given to hard knuckles. Even though she has tried to put the past behind her, she is threading her path with so much care and caution never to give chance for any controversy.  The last time Society watch called her to confirm certain story about her, she sounded very ruffled, begging she wanted to remain in her quite life. Some had termed her new way of life to being born again.  For the single mother of three who is still facing a manslaughter trial, that could be a better way to go only if the prying eyes of gossips will let her live her life.  I doubt.

Kessington Adebutu in a lavish 75th birthday

Kessington Adebutu

Lekan Alabi turns 60

For the Ikolaba Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, it is time to roll out the drums as he turns 60.  He has every reasons to make the birthday loud.  Besides the razmatazz of the various offices he has held in the past, serving as Press Secretary to four different Governors of Oyo State, now sitting among the high chiefs in Ibadanland especially those who decides the where the pendulum swings, he has come through thick and thin, now establishing himself even among the famous politicians in the state as an aristocract.  Alabi who is from the linage of great Ibadan warriors and great chiefs like Ekerin Suberu Ajengbe and Oyetunji Olundegun last Wednesday, October 27, turned 60.  We gathered that the highpoint of the celebration this weekend was the launching of his biography titled Destiny, otherwise known as ‘Ayanmo’
As a famous leader in Ibadanland, politicians, businessmen and technocrats will troop in to Ibadan this weekend for the celebration. Congratulations.

Hajia Bola Shagaya in a noiseless birthday party

The popular stylish woman and one of the wealthy society woman, Hajia Bola Muinat Shagaya just need to snap her fingers and you will see celebrities rushing to heed her call for a gig. She recently turned 51 years and the day almost went unnoticed. recently turned 51. The birthday which was thought will be as loud as the celebrant was low-key. The reason could be easily deduced, she did not want to drag celebrities for a 51 anniversary celebration when the memory of last year’s lavished shindig still lingers.
Sources hinted that the dame of commerce and friend of the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and others in the corridors of power had earlier put off the birthday party for undisclosed reasons, but had to put up some few arrangements to mark the day with some few friends. Hajia whose lavished housewarming party some few years back and 50th birthday soiree are still being talked about by her many admirers is known for her elegance in the fashion and business world and does not need much effort to drag celebrities to her party.
Congratulations!

“Bursting Out” & “Holding Hope” Redefined Movie Premiere

Nollywood has seized to be the dumping ground for low quality films as
movie producers and actors have improved on their skills, and are now
producing movies that are of world class standards.

This fact is further reinforced on Sunday, August 8 as one of Africa’s
leading producers, Emem Isong invited top shots within and outside the
movie industry to the premiere of Bursting Out and Holding Hope.

The event which took place at Silverbird Galleria had its red carpet
filled with dignitaries and paparazzi fought themselves to have
pictures taken. Majid Michel, Omoni Oboli, Stephanie Okereke, Nadia
Buari, Genevieve Nnaji and many others were at the premiere to support
their colleagues, Emem Isong, Uche Jombo and Desmond Elliot.
Local and international TV crews including Reuters and Studio 53 Extra
were on hand to cover the event! After doing the rounds on the red
carpet, guests were then ushered upstairs to watch the movies.

People could not hold back their love for another block buster movie
as the first hall quickly filled up and another hall had to be
commandeered to accommodate the teaming crowd! Even that was not
enough as many guests had to make do with sitting in the aisle and
standing at the back of the hall.

Cocktails and small chops were on hand for interested guests. Then at
about 7pm the screening started and many were engulfed in the humorous
chick flick that is Bursting Out. Immediately after, the screening of
Holding Hope began. It was a heart wrenching, tear-jerker that left
many in tears.

After a great night of undeniable fun, guests eventually left the
venue of the premiere with goodie bags.

LANCELOT MEETS DAGRIN’S FATHER

Veteran movie director, Lancelot Imasuen has begun consultations with
the father of late yoruba rap artist, Dagrin, in order to have inputs
from the older Olanipekun on the life and times of his late son for
the production of Ghetto Dreams, a biopic on the life and times of
late rapper Dagrin .
Dagrin’s father will be helping the versatile director in recalling
the life, timeof the late rapper and events that shaped the course of
life of the late rap artist.
Speaking on the rationale behind the involvement of the late rap
artist’s father, Lancelot Imasuen said, “I’m of the opinion that when
you want to look into an epic work like this, talking about the deeds
of some heroic deeds of some individual, you must be able to have more
than enough to put on the table and all of that.”
Lancelot futher stated that Dagrin’s father is fully aware of the
movie project and he is also very much involved in the production of
the movie.
Ghetto Dreams, a biography of the late rap artist. Ghetto Dream will
profile in a touching way the true life story and experiences of
Dagrin: the development, struggles, breakthrough and death of Dagrin.
The movie will also feature a cast of young and upcoming artistes as
well as established musicians.
Meanwhile the search for a perfect match to play the role of Dagrin is
still on. Describing the qualities an individual must posses to play
the role of Dagrin, Stingomania Entertainment says the Dagrin must
have an extremely close resemblance with the artist in physique, rap
skills, street credibility and mannerism
Also speaking on the movie project, Lancelot Imasuen the director of
the movie said, “I’ll be needing assistance from a whole lot of people
that actually mean well for the project because we want to go deep
with the story we have been able to gather but in terms of the
structures on ground, in terms of the artistry, in terms of the
liberty as artistes dive into areas that we want to create; I believe
it is going to be a huge success, that I can assure you with God on
our side”.
The movie, Ghetto Dreams will serve the dual purpose of immortalizing
Dagrin and at the same time provide some financial consolation to the
family of Dagrin who have been largely ignored by the various
commercial projects based on the life and works of Dagrin. A portion
(20%) of the net proceeds from this movie will go towards donations
for the family of Dagrin, while another 20% will go towards the
endowment for the Ghetto Dreams Foundation in honor of Dagrin.
The movie will be premiered at major theaters in different locations
at home and abroad.

Dimeji Bankole sneaks into buka to eat Amala

You absolutely won't believe this, but it’s real. The number four citizen of the country and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Dimeji Bankole, was recently caught sneaking into a road side buka in Ikeja, to eat one of his favorites. Seriously!, the speaker defied all protocols as he navigated his way through to Otigba street, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had a lunch of Amala with Gbegiri and Ewedu soup. Many could not believe their eyes when they saw the Speaker walk into the popular Bostai Restaurant, Otigba Strret, Ikeja, famous for amala. Immediately he was sighted, passers-by and traders surged forward to confirm whether the Speaker actually came to have lunch or for another purpose. Societywatch was right there as the Speaker who was decked in his usual white kaftan, came out of the ‘buka’ smiling, looking refreshed and apparently satisfied with the taste of the food. A curious observer immediately accosted him and asked what he had come to do and he said “I have come for lunch and I enjoyed the delicacy,” he said. On how often he visits the place, the Ogun state born speaker said, “I visit here always, and the taste of their food has not changed.”
The operator of the restaurant, Mama Bostai, confirmed to SW that the Speaker is a regular customer of the eatery. “Long before he became the speaker, he has been coming to the restaurant. His father’s house is not far from here.” She however declined further comment on the issue.
If the speaker, the number four citizen of the Country could jettison the exclusive environment and the high-profile restaurant in Abuja and Lagos, to have a lunch of Amala in a buka located in a crowdy area like Otigba street, Computer Village, Ikeja then, the taste of the food must be something else.

Obasanjo gives out daughter in marriage

Giving out the hand of a daughter in marriage is one of the special days in the life of a father. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo must be feeling fulfiled as a father as he gives out the hand of one of his daughters, Olubunmi Esther in marriage today.
As you are reading this, t he residence of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at the Osoba Hill Top, G.R.A, Abeokuta is agog with activities as it plays host to the family of Adebayo Oluwole Williams in an engagement ceremony to Oluwarotimi Tolulope Williams.
A dream come true for the couple who will obviously be overwhelmed by the presence of dignitaries, politicians, high net-worth individuals who will come from far and near to witness the engagement ceremony. It is truly and surely no less a testimony to how Baba is loved and admired by people even after leaving office as the President of Nigeria. We shall bring to you details of the wedding next week.

Mama Diaspora jets out, plans wedding for daughter in the US

Chief Ms Temiyope Ajayi , a.k.a Mama Diaspora will not cease to be in the news. In recent time, issues about her agricultural projects called Nigerian Agricultural Economic and Empowerment Programme (NAEEP) has been in the news. The programme which will train and empower participants in mechanized system of farming and supported by Lisabi Mills Limited is making some measure of progress. But for now, Mama Diaspora left for the United States few days ago. Mama Dee as she is also fondly called is not in the US for any serious business, but has gone to step up the wedding preparations of one of her daughters slated for 14th of this month in the US. We gathered that she has contracted professional event planners for the wedding. She has also taken the photograph of Bella Adenuga's wedding cake as prototype for her daughter's wedding. The wedding scheduled to take place in California, will host many Nigerian businessmen and professionals, including her American friends. A single parent who lost her husband to the cold hands of death several years ago, she lived in the US for more than 15 years and has been responsible for the education of her three daughters who are graduates in various fields from Harvard University. Said to be a good friend to the US department of Commerce and the Governor of Arkansas, Mama Dee sources said, might shop for equipment for her agric programme immediately after the wedding

Sen Ike Nwachukwu holds classy wedding for son

Few days ago, it was a milestone in the life of Senator Ike Nwachukwu, a retired army General and former minister of communications, as his son Ike Abubakar Solawole tied the nuptial knot with Nadeja Iretioluwa Omotosho in a classy wedding. The union was solemnized last Thursday, at Our Saviours Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Guests were treated to a feast at the venue of the reception, Shell Hall of the Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos.
The bride, Nadia was looking very good on her day. She looked like a queen with a rare profound beauty that put her in good stead. Fair-skinned and dazzling, no wonder Ike Nwachukwu jnr can do anything for her. Ike too, is every lady’s dream.
The Ike Nwachukwus actually created a special evening to be remembered as the who-is-who were on hand to wish the couple a happy married life with gourmet of menu and drinks that flowed freely. Congratulations!

Bibiana Ohio plays hide and seek!

Since her bitter divorce, the former beauty queen’s appearance in public has been sparsely noticed. The prying eyes of the media had not helped matters too, occasionally lashing out at her and her every move after the devastating experience had been evilly watched. Gossips had waited for the slightest opportunity to trigger off a rumour but then, there had been none! She had recoiled into herself, focusing solely on her job as a broadcaster and raising her daughter.
For a long time, nothing was heard or seen of her. She avoided public red carpet engagements, luncheons and parties where preying eyes lay in wait for her like a plague. Then, she was sighted at the A.M.E.N awards with her daughter Marisa but missed other major award nights and town rocking events. The hide and seek became difficult and we had in fact laid our pen to rest on her before last week, Societywatch’s search light fell on her, on the eve of her departure back to her work base in Abuja. She had been in Lagos for a few weeks of ‘work leave’. A source close to the inner ring that shadowed her, told this reporter that she had been having a time of her life here. When we asked “with whom?” Our source pointed to the heavens and swore in God’s name never to tell. That gave us a clue....you know what I mean. Places she frequented was also not given to us incase we planned to lay ambush on her next visit which we hear is coming very soon. We tried to tail her even for that one night, but for a lady who had beat gossip reporters to their own game, It was impossible! Anyways, our dragnet tightens and we hope we’ll catch her soon, someday.

Gloria Ibru: still the rocking lady!

A million years of weakened bones may be unable to halt this very vivacious and high striking society woman. Even with the waves contemporary naija songs are making, Gloria still wields her tightly organized and talented band; thrilling fun lovers of jazz and slow music in night clubs and open evening garden spots. Gossips who descended on her recently, told this reporter that even though she had not really been consistent with her shows, particularly the one she held every Friday night at De’ Place, she still had it far from her mind to quit because this would mean her leaving the flock of celebrity circles. And believe us, in recent times, the Gloria we’ve seen at some star studded events in and out of the state isn’t a woman who is about to quit.

Comedy in Church

Na waooh! Was the first comment that came from the lips of a young woman who read this flyer with this Society reporter. The content of the flyer is about a popular and well known comedian especially in Surulere. He has been seen on TV a couple of times, drives a Mercedes Benz and was pushed to lime light by a leading comedian who currently runs a comedy live show on TV. This star comedian of ours has really be hustling to host his own comedy show and had actually tried a couple of things like putting up some fairly average performances in the past in street side night clubs and drinking points. But this time around, he took his campaign to the church. This is not strange, especially in Lagos as churches are fast now becoming pulpits for a number of comedians. Show after show are now being organized in collaboration with church pastors as part of a fierce effort at canvassing for members which in some cases had worked. People now actually come to church to laugh! Talk of the end time... Anyways, we wish this comedian good luck in his future gospel-comedy endeavors.

Benita Nzeribe enjoys spinsterhood

What’s all the noise about Benita Nzeribe? Some mischief-makers are spreading ugly tales around the actress. They say she is never ready to get married and say goodbye to the come easy-go-easy-men who only desire to eat and run. Her real fans and friends have taken her up severally, even on her FB bombarding her on comments relating to issue of marriage. The vivacious actress has never thought it wise to consider that marriage is like a crown on the head of a lady and the earlier she flaunt that crown, the better. Sometimes last year, she was quoted to have told newsmen that “very soon” she will send an invitation card sounding as if she had secured an engagement ring from one Mr Right. Benita have been said to have dated several men, changing them as if they were worn out cloths. But why gossips will not allow this actress to have her breath, even if she jumps around, she most probably not ready to be a play thing for any lustful skirt chaser. But she’s got to make hey while the sun shines.

Tricia Eseigbe, too busy

Whaoo! Tricia Eseigbe can’t just afford a break! She cant just take time out for some nerve soothing events. When have you seen Tricia out there? The Bold Faces presenter has not been seen either on the screen or at parties in recent time. Our checks reveal that the fair complexioned Television presenter who got married last December is too busy now. We gathered she is not only busy with the production of her programme, but also overtaken by the enormity of job locking around for the success of her husband’s project, Talent reality show. You will recall Tricia assisted her hubby in the unveiling of the Talent reality show recently. Sources close to her office at Bode Thomas, Lagos said she rarely comes to office. It may not be about compiling list of football stars for a show after the world cup, but maybe...maybe they are too busy making babies? Or What do you think! It’s another reality of job, you’d say.

What Gowon will not compromise

Making for quite a splendid time with football, the former head of states, Gen Yakub Gowon, spent a whole 30-day period watching the world cup football in his palatial home, in Kaduna. The retired general, throughout the period the world cup lasted, chose to give maximum attention to the mundial and could tell you right from the blast of the whistle in the first game to the final game that ended last Sunday. He was not deterred by the early ouster of his home team but wrapped himself in the frills, and tension of the game from the beginning to the end. When a colleague called to get his opinion on some national issues, the elder statesman was never ready to offer his thought on any issue other than football. He said, “No issue is greater that the world cup for and until the fiesta is over, I’ll not discuss any issue”. Even when he fixed another date within the World cup period, he declined again. Don’t make mistake, it is not about relaxing with football, it is more about where his heart is. But thank God, he didn’t allow his home team to give him heart attack. His love for football has not waned since he built the first national stadium in the country some four decades ago. For him, the fiesta should continue.

Who is after DAKOVA?

For the fashion enthusiasts in the late 80s, the name DAKOVA rings bell. David Kolawole Vaughan carved a niche for himself as one of the early starters of real fashion business in Nigeria and he had enjoyed the patronage of a good number of who-is-who in the social circle until late 90s when he veered into politics apparently to attract more patrons. Politics became one of his undoing factors as he was incarcerated on political related issues while his fast growing business crashed, hitting him so hard. Surviving from his several ordeals, he migrated to Abuja, and started again on a fresh note. The celebrated fashion designer again veered into entertainment business. With his Aristotle Nite Club, fortunes again began to smile on him as society gals and politicians make this popular hangout located at Ceddis Plaza, Abuja, a place to visit. Little did he know that his detractors are well at work again. Recently a dreaded team of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stormed his hangout in Abuja and whisked him away. Although he was said to have been released shortly after interrogation over what a source described as narcotic related issue. We gathered that he had earlier had a brawl with one of his customers who we gathered was a very influential young man over unpaid bills running close to a million naira. The young man, we heard vowed to deal with him with all his might. Tale bearers are also pointing accusing fingers on some envious club owners in the city who feel the success of Aristotle Nite Club is detrimental to theirs. We gathered that the club has not fully recovered from the incidence as full services are yet to begin, while patrons seem skeptical about their security at the fun centre. Whoever is behind this, sources yelped, the dimunitive designer will come out stronger., just a matter of time he said.

Reality bites for Madam Eunice Orji Kalu,

If information oozing out of the government house in Umuahia. Abia State is any thing to go by, the anti-climax of the political war between the erstwhile political godfather, and godmother on the one hand and the governor of the state, Theodore Orji on the other hand is getting messier. Societywatch recently gathered that the mother of the former governor of the state, Madam Eunice Orji was asked to leave the government guest house which we heard she had been occupying. Sources hinted that she recently moved out of the place after several notices sent to her before the official resignation and defection of governor TA Orji to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Another information had it that the first lady of the state, Mrs Mercy Orji had pressed for the ejection of the once defacto leader of the state. The first lady we gathered had passionately disliked the undue influence the Madam and the son had wielded on the government of the state. Sources disclosed to Societywatch that this is one of the steps already taken to make clear statement on the new paradigm shift in the state. But Oga gov where are our people

The incident happened at Queens Cinema area of the city around 10.30 pm when the deceased reportedly came back from Ada, Osun Societygist learnt that the man who was a commercial driver hanged himself in his father’s house in Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The shocked father of the deceased, Pa Ajayi told newsmen that his dead son had earlier complained of being cash-strapped, an issue that raised high suspicion.
According to the bereaved father, he said he was oblivious of the incident until one of his tenants called his attention to the tragic incident when he was coming from the hospital.
When asked further if he had any clue that could have forced the deceased to hang himself, he simply said he did not leave any suicide note to give room for the possible cause of his death.
We gathered that his dangling body could not be immediately removed as some sacrifice had to be made before the evacuation of the remains.
The police confirmed the incident adding that investigation was already being carried out to ascertain the cause of his death.

IBB sees red @ Madonna University

Call it nemesis if you like. Former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda a.k.a. Maradona’s statement many years ago that the youths were incapable and immature to rule the country, came to haunt him in far away Okija, the home of private University, Madonna.
The man who calls himself the evil genius may have been paid back in his own coins on a day the University authority chose to honour him with an honourary doctorate degree.
Accompanied by his host, the Governor of the Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi and a vast entourage, the gap toothed and agbada wearing ex- General arrived the University, unaware that trouble loomed.
No do, no do, the, business of the day soon got underway with the Vice-Chancellor Prof Ngwoke taking charge, after the usual procession.
And just when it was the turn of the Minna landlord to thank the University for honouring him, a foremost actress, Rita Edochie chose that moment to walk into the venue.
One cat call, was all it took for bedlam to erupt and the cacophony of noise that heralded her arrival. Oblivious of the speech being delivered by IBB, the students’ screams and catcalls drowned whatever speech the former military president was making.
Attempts by the VC to restore sanity to the event, like water on the back of a duck failed. And just when activities resumed and everyone thought normalcy had returned, than another shocker came by way of the arrival of another seasoned and bearded actor, Prince Emeka Ani. This time the venue became rowdy as the students roared to the delight of the dark-skinned actor who obviously enjoyed the attention.
The VIPs present at the occasion were visibly embarrassed but could not save the situation.
IBB’s attempt to pacify the students by citing the example of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein who at the ages of 24 and 26 invented the camcorder failed to impress and score with the students.
It was an embarrassed VC that gathered the students the following day and lampooned them on the discomfiture caused by them.
He was miffed by what he called the attitude of the students in edifying the Nollywood stars he referred to as clowns. But the truth remains that whatever the VC said on that day, The students have made an instructive statement. Chikena.

Anger over Bankole/OGD’s story

It is amazing how rumours seem to easily permeate the Gateway fortress of the Ogun State.
Even in the face of obvious false hood, rumors have never ceased to fly on matters affecting the state, especially on issues involving His Excellency.
Now that you have a picture of the situation on ground, you might begin to understand the implication of the wicked rumour making the rounds in the state, alleging that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole had snubbed Oga Guv’ at the 50th coronation anniversary of the Awujale of Ijebu-land, Oba Sikiru Adetona recently.
An angry avid supporter of the of the people’s Guv quipped that “what was most annoying is the fact that the Amebos chose the pages of some national dailies (not Vanguard) to vent their spleens on a matter that was unfounded“.
The source who insisted he was seated close to the speaker at the ceremony said, it was another of the several attempts by the enemies of the state to fan the embers of rancour among prominent members of the state.
“I read the story and I think it is a contrivance of the author and machinations of the enemies of the state.”, the source gushed.

Owu agog as Olowu celebrates 5th coronation

Barely a week after the celebration of 50 years anniversary of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland, which recorded a huge turn out of who-is-who in Nigeria, the land of Owu, Ogun state is already agog in festive mood rearing to host again the movers and shakers of power in the country. The event is the fifth anniversary coronation of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu, the paramount ruler of the ancient kingdom of Owu slated for 2nd to 4th July, 2010. The three-day event will be hosted by the former president and the Balogun of Owu, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. We gathered that the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will grace not only grace the occasion but will also be conferred with the title - Obateru of Owu Kingdom. Other prominent Nigerians will also be in attendance. We gathered from a reliable source in the palace several hundreds of hotel rooms have been booked for various states government and other dignitaries that will grace the event. We specifically gathered that over 200 rooms have been booked for Zamfara and Imo state governments each.

Gov Shinkafi and wife get chieftaincy title

One of the razzmatazz of the 5th coronation anniversary of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom is the conferment of chieftaincy titles to prominent Nigerians. Apart from the fact that the number one citizen, President Jonathan will be conferred with the Obateru of Owu, the first citizen of Zamfara state, Governor Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi and his wife, Aisha Babangida-Shinkafi.
Source hinted SW that the governor and his wife will be conferred with the title of Aare-rotoba of Owu and Yeye-rotoba of Owu respectively. We gathered that the Zamfara state government will storm Owu, Ogun state with a massive entourage to receive the chieftaincy titles and add colour to the event.

Man tears two friends apart

“Oh Jah see them coming, see them lying...”, This line of a song made popular by reggae musician, Ras Kimono paints the picture of the story SW is about unleashing. It is the story of the once upon a time sizzling romance between two former friends and partners in an advertising firm based in Surulere, Lagos, which sources say has since collapsed. The bane of the matter according to a source is built on distrust and betrayal. .
For the benefit of you our dear readers, one of the ladies is an ace broadcaster who also runs a local content feature TV programme in the UK and one not new to this page. And the other, is a half Indian, half Trinidad and Tobago beauty once rumored to be in a steamy relationship with a Nollywood actor who recently got married.
Shhhhhh... do not say SW told you this. The real gist is that MAN is at the centre of the wahala. Hmmm, Society Watch gathered that trouble started shortly after this half cast lady who recently returned from a business trip to London teamed up with her broadcaster-friend to expand the frontiers of the advertising business she set up years ago.
Things went on well for a while until the very seductive Oyibo pepper decided that her friend’s man was better off with her.
An unperturbed Madam broadcaster who believed that no woman could touch her guy was said to have received the shock of her life when, like an Iroko tree, her guy fell on to the antics of the seductive temptress.
Betrayed that her friend and business partner could touch the forbidden fruit, Madam broadcaster has now declared war on her former friend, whom source say has since Kasala bursted, scrammed back to the UK.
Mind you, the man in question, is reportedly married with a wife with grown up kids.

Mike Aremu set for another SAX rampage

Like the American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer John Coltrane, who exerted an influence on the jazz of the 60s and 70s who could be said to be in the mould of Charlie Parker's Nigerian reigning saxophonist Mike Aremu will continue to be in the reckoning as far as playing sax is concerned. His staying power is not only his cultural tone on the tenor saxophone, but also his stage craft which has become his trademark.
The recent concert he held both in Nigeria and Europe and America according to what he heard, were soul-driving and highly inspirational. Societywatch witnessed one of the concerts he organised in Nigeria recently where notable artistes including the chief host, Aremu had a brilliant show that echoed beyound the shores of the country. Right now, another Sax show is being organised by the artiste. We gathered that the event will feature notable artistes such as Two-time MOBO Award winner, Yolanda Brown (UK), our own South African based guitarist, Kunle Ayo, The Nigerian Soul Sensation, Bez, GT da Guiterman, with star comedian TA as the compere. Keep a date with him on 24th of July at the Muson Centre, Lagos.

Celine Loader adds a year

It was another moment of joy for the big society babe, banker and a publisher, Celine Loader as she adds another year to her age. Although, it was no big bash, but the former UBA top manager spared no moment last weekend to rejoice and tell whoever cared that it was one her best moment in life. She yelped, “I thank the almighty God for my birthday today. It's always a humbling experience to attempt to count one's blessings and realise just how abundantly God has favoured you. As I start a new year today, I thank HIM for every blessing HE has showered me with and for every trial surmounted. May HIS light continue to lead me to the destiny HE planned for me. Amen!” The fashion enthusiast would always want to conceal her age and she dare not reveal her age, not even a clue that she was above 40. But forty-what? She just wouldn’t say. Hear her: “Just don't ask me how old “

Uche Iwuji’s new look

Uche Iwuji’s name may not be new in today’s Nollywood industry, but her new improved looks have certainly redefined and upped her profile. And not only has her looks changed for the better Uche is simply dazzling and having the fun of her life.
And if the look and shape of the female anatomy matter in producers’ choice of casts in movies, then Uche is on the way to becoming the most sought after actress in Nollywood.
Words have it that the 32 year old wonder woman doled out hundreds of thousands in Naira to fitness and massage experts to work on her killer hips which many say is her greatest assets.
Often yabbed by colleagues for not using her God given gift to the hilt, Uche who seems to have found her rhythm has become a popular item with the paparazzos.
With flat tucked tummy and curvy hips, she flaunts her new shape in your face, with an I dare you kind of look.
Something new also happened to her wardrobes. Gone are those damp skirts and tops that reminded one of those product of the famous bend down select market in Tejuosho, Lagos.
Brrrr... OMG, go gal flaunt them if you have it.

No secret wedding for Benny Obaze

If you are one of those harbingers of false hood spreading words of a secret marriage between city clothier Benny Obaze and Rita, his heart throb of many years, you had better put a stop to your game of deceit before the long arm of society police gets to you. Society Watch can authoritatively confirm that there is no scrap of truth in the speculation.
Instead, Benny, Chairman of Bevista and Revista Clothing who recently buried his dear mother amidst pomp and pageantry is cooling off and allowing the impact of his mother’s demise sink in.
And if you think he is in a hurry to tie up the knots with his woman, you have goofed.
Family sources gushed to SW that “For God’s sake, Benny has just buried his mother and can’t immediately roll out the drums for his wedding. And like a gold fish, there is no sense in contemplating a secret wedding”.
The love birds are simply taking things slowly not because they cannot afford it, they just want to respect Mama. Arrangements for the wedding will soon begin.

Olu Akande, Dakore Egbuson plan wedding

There were strong indication that the fairy tale romance between star actress Dakore Egbuson and city big boy and heir to the Akande dynasty, Olumide Akande may soon be formalised.
Tale bearers say the Senior Akandes who were once rumoured to have kicked against the relationship may have finally put their seal of consent.
And since the lovey-dovey duo got what they needed most in their young lives, they have been painting the town red. They are hardly seen apart these days and are everywhere the action is. Recently Societywatch caught both of them holding hands together, dancing all through the night at a function in Lagos recently. Trust tatafos, they seem to follow the couple everywhere and preying on them.
Olumide and Dakore’s relationship remains one of the most talked about in the Nigerian social circle. They have been dating for a long time and the talk amongst unbelievers was that the relationship was a just a matter of time, before it was blown away like a ill wind.
Shame to bad people. We thank the Lord for the new development.

OGD’s olive branch

Since the disagreement between the state governor and the House of Assembly started over the issue of the proposed bond, there have been accusations and counter accusations from both camps. With several reconciliation moves said to have been made by the governor have not yielded any result. A cabinet source informed Societywatch that apart from the last two moves which did not produce any result, the governor is still very much interested in closing ranks with all the feuding members of the House. We gathered that some of the feuding members have in the face of disagreement which is not a rare occurrence in a democracy, some of them have resorted to the use various anti-graft agencies to hoodwink some of the friends and allies of the executive governor and cry wolf where there is none. Source hinted that like a king who will never want his reign to be riddled with chaos, the governor is right now paving the way for another reconciliation opportunity in spite of the unfortunate standpoints and comments by those who aught to know. And like the ancient Daniel, OGD has continued to show shrewdness in boldness in tackling the issue. That of course is the burden of leadership.

Tony Allen tours US to recreate Afrobeat

Tony Allen who fueled Fela’s furious rhythmic fire and put his beat in Afrobeat for fifteen years is on a brief tour to United States tour.
His purpose you may ask is to recreate the popular Afrobeat and give it a new sensation.
The 69-year old gal, who has lived in Paris for more than two decades wondered why it took so long for the mainstream to discover Fela. Allen, with his trademark double beats on the bass drum, has long been doing his part to grow Afrobeat, starting with Fela’s electrifying Afrika 70 band in the late ’60s.
Fela charged much of his music with jagged political barbs, often aimed at the Nigerian government. His lyrics landed him in jail more than once. Allen, too, was jailed, but he has focused more sharply on the music than on righting wrongs
Some people say I created Afrobeat,” Allen said. “No, it was in conjunction with Fela. I had to find a way to play what Fela wanted. It was a challenge to myself. We were meant for each other,.” he said.

One year of Michael Jackson’s death: Sister claims singer was ‘murdered’ for money

Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya now claims her brother was murdered because he ‘was worth more dead than alive,’

Speaking a British breakfast TV show, the 54-year old singer and Playboy model demanded ‘the truth’ about Michael’s death;

“From the day my mother screamed ‘he’s dead’ on the phone, I just went ‘Who did it?’ He was murdered for his back-catalog, and they knew that,” she told the hosts. “It’s totally unfair, and it was not an accident.”

Just since Michael’s death one-year ago today, Billboard magazine say the Jackson estate has grossed over $1-billion in royalties.

While not endorsing his sister’s views, fellow ‘Jackson 5′ star, Jermaine Jackson says converting to Islam as he did could have saved Michael’s life.

“If Michael had embraced Islam he’d still be here today,” Jermaine told reporters, adding that life had been ‘tough’ for the family since last June.

“We’ll never get over it,” he said. “There are no words to describe the feeling, we’re just learning to live with it.”

Bosses at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn cemetery have announced that fans will be allowed to leave flowers on a terrace near the singer’s last resting place. But balloons, candles and doves are forbidden.

Never one to miss a chance to block the view of a camera, the Reverend Al Sharpton, who presided over Jackson’s memorial service, has also chimed in with his views;

“I don’t think the world has been able to mourn him properly because there are too many questions,” the BBC quotes hims as saying. “I think we can celebrate his life, but we can’t be settled with his death until we know, who, what and why. And we still don’t know.”

La Toya was among the first Jacksons to reach UCLA Medical Center when news of her brother’s condition got out. She also ordered a second autopsy after noticing unexplained medical paraphernalia in his home, and discovering that over $2 million in cash and jewels had gone missing.

So she has grounds for doubt. But is she right, or just crazy — What do you guys all think?…

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren divorce settlement iminent

While previous reports have indicated that divorce talks between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren have gone from fairly civil to quite acrimonious, it looks like there has been a breakthrough. According to report, the couple’s divorce papers are “about to be signed.” “Things are now very civil between Tiger and Elin – at least in terms of getting the divorce taken care of.”

Speculation has been that the main previous sticking points have been that Elin had decided to go for full custody of their two children, and she refuses to sign a lifetime “confidentiality clause” that would prevent her from writing a book or doing any interviews related to the collapse of the couple’s marriage. Elin still reportedly wants Tiger to be a big part of their children’s lives, but she has decided not to agree to joint custody, but perhaps a compromise has been reached. Elin bought a secluded house last year in Sweden, and is reportedly interested in moving there when the divorce is complete. Elin is also expected to collect an estimated $750 million in the settlement.

Bayelsa Dep Gov, Ebebi, impeached

The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi, has been sacked by the state house of assembly. The sack is coming just 23 days after it initiated impeachment proceedings against him.
Ebebi, a two-time Speaker of the State House of Assembly, was impeached for allegedly being guilty of nine of the 10 offences listed against him. Watch out for details

DETAILS
The impeachment of the deputy governor was sequel to the adoption of a report of the seven-member investigative panel headed by Mr. D.C. Dewingwe. The panel, which was set up by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri, concluded its sitting, Wednesday, and submitted its report to the assembly for consideration.
The panel’s report had earlier been adopted through a motion moved by Mr. Franklin Otele and seconded by Mr. Alfred Egba.
Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, who moved the motion for the impeachment, said it was no longer news that 17 out the 24-member House signed an impeachment notice against the deputy governor.
He said that a resolution was passed asking the Chief Judge to constitute the panel in accordance with Section 188(10) of the 1999 Constitution, noting that the panel report indicated that the deputy governor was found guilty of all the allegations levelled against him except one.

Ebebi's offences

Part of the allegations listed against the deputy governor, as contained in the impeachment notice include:
*That Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State wilfully deserted his official duties by refusing to attend, without reasonable cause, the weekly Executive Council meetings of Bayelsa State since January 2010.
*That Ebebi wilfully failed and, or refused to attend state functions without lawful excuses since February 2010.
*That Ebebi has abandoned his office and official residence since February 2010 without official leave and has deliberately neglected and refused to perform the functions for which he was elected.
*That Ebebi, in February 2009, applied for and received N29,660, 909 (twenty-nine thousand, six hundred and sixty thousand, nine hundred and nine naira) for medical treatment in Germany but he fraudulently converted the said sum as he neither travelled to Germany or refunded the said money to the state Treasury.
*That His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ebebi without regard to the dignity of his exalted office, openly fought with the then caretaker committee chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Council, Chief Ben Robert Eyorokumoh and shot him with a gun thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
Hon. Obuebite said the deputy governor was found guilty of some of the allegations while others were proved except one_ that His Excellency, Rt. Hon Ebebi, in violation of oath of office, sponsored acts of terrorism with a view to making Bayelsa state ungovernable by recruiting gunmen who acquired and store large quantities of explosives, together with arms and ammunition, in Latik Hotel, owned by him located on INEC Road.
Accordingly, in compliance with Section 188(1_9), Mr. Obuebite moved the motion for his impeachment, which was supported by Mr. Fini Angaye and unanimously adopted by over 2/3 majority members of the House in attendance.

AC, others condemn action

In its reaction, AC described the impeachment process as a sad development for a state yearning for development.
According to State Acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki ,“it is pathetic and sad that while other states are commissioning state-of-the-art projects, the Sylva-led administration is exercising undue strength and committing public funds on purely political matter at the expense of developmental projects.
“The impeachment saga is another conduit pipe to defraud the state at a critical moment the state is in dire need of empowerment and development.”
The group, Dream Bayelsa, yesterday, blamed the impeachment saga in the state on ego clash between Governor Timipre Sylva and his deputy, Ebebi.
Chairman of Dream Bayelsa, Mr. Amaebi Clarkson said, “The personality clash that culminated to the impeachment of Ebebi does not in any way benefit the ordinary Bayelsans. It rather further depleted our resources. Millions of funds have been expended on hiring SANs and publicity.
“We just hope the removal of Ebebi lead to improvement in the live of the ordinary man in the state.”

Memory lane

The impeached deputy governor, it would be recalled, had been a beneficiary of three impeachment plots in the past.
He was made speaker following the impeachment of the first Speaker of the assembly, Mr. Heineken Lokpobiri in 2001 but lost the position to Mr. Boyelayefa Debekeme following his return to the assembly in 2007.
When the house moved against Dekebeme in the build-up to the plot to oust former Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Ebebi again turned out to be the beneficiary as he was made the speaker for the second time and was subsequently made the deputy governor to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan following the impeachment of Alamieyeseigha in 2005.

Joy Emodi seeks appointment

The reality that power is transient may have numbed Senator Joy Efeyinwa Emordi who reluctantly left the chambers after the court upheld the election of Alphonsus Uba Igbeke as the authentic winner of the senatorial seat.
Truly, she must it was not really easy to forget the camaraderie in a friendly atmosphere she had worked, so much that some of her colleagues were rooting for her stay or better still get a ministerial appointment.
But since the prevailing circumstances which we heard perplexed her, she has been seen in the presidency probably cracking out some deal. A source hinted Societywatch that the senator could be lobbying for political appointment to remain relevant in the corridors of power. Our source however believed that she is very likely to get something soonest.
Emodi was Chairman of Senate Committee on Education as well as member of the Committees on Solid Minerals, Establishment and Public Service, and Petroleum Resources (Down Stream Sector)
